Our Readers

The many readers of Carolina Gardener are what make our magazine worthwhile. They enjoy the articles, use the advice, and make purchasing decisions based on our many contributors, including writers, advertisers and other organizations. We appreciate them, as they appreciate us. So we'd like to share some of their words with you, whether you're a reader already, or you're thinking about becoming one.

Hello there,

I just wanted to let you know I just subscribed to your wonderful magazine. I was recently at the UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens for a University City Garden Club meeting and they had a few issues of your magazine there. Before the meeting started, I was looking through the issue they had and was delighted to see all of the useful information and beautiful images that were in your magazine! I am really looking forward to my subscription beginning and to receiving my 2006 Almanac. I am glad that they had those issues of your magazine at the Botanical Gardens so I could see what I had been missing :) Thanks for all of your hard work and for a magazine uniquely suited to gardening in our area.
Thanks so much,

Cecelia Ewing

Dear fellow gardeners,

Thank you for the article about daffodils (Nov./Dec. 2005, page 21). I really enjoyed it. I also enjoyed the references to the excellent book of Linda and Sara Van Beck, Daffodils in Florida: A Field Guide to the Coastal South, but [there was] no place to purchase it. This book can be found at www.fladaff.com or (850) 878-9753. The price is $24 plus postage. Please let the daffodil fanciers know.

I love your magazine and have just renewed. This is my first time on the website. I find it very user-friendly, colorful and inviting. I plan to spend more time on the website as the days go on. I am a relatively new gardener, so both the magazine and the website are great learning tools. Thanks!!

I first saw your magazine in one of those mail packets. It had a card to send in for a free copy and I have been a subscriber ever since (Oct 1999). I moved to NC from Alabama 10 years ago and gardening here is very different. Your magazine has been so much help to me and I look forward to all the information and beautiful pictures. My yard was an acre of garbage, poison oak, weeds and briars. Now it is paths, beds and natural areas with at least a hundred different plants. It is still a work in progress and I love working in it. Thanks for your magazine.

I love your magazine. We moved here from Wisconsin in March of last year and I find your magazine very helpful. I enjoy reading about plants which are unfamiliar to me and botanical gardens and nurseries in NC/SC. I also find the calendar of events very useful. I'm a member of a garden club in Anderson as well as a Master Gardener certified through Clemson (I was certified in Wisconsin as well). Keep up the good work!

Garden Tips

  • Re-mulch beds, no more than four inches deep, and trees two to three inches, to keep the soil cool and discourage weeds.
